Ford Model A Pickup Restoration April 2012This month I have used to buy missing materials like wood, screws, steel profiles and some more paint. I have also brought my polished parts to the galvanic shop for electroplating - let's see how they look like when I can pick them up.
In between I've made a specific tool that I'll need later.
The steel profiles are bent and ready for welding.
I need this tool for painting my steel wheels. With the help of this tool I can turn the wheel during the paint job.
When a wheel is painted, I can lift it easily and continue with the next one. Since I do have a spare tire, 5 of them are needed.
Before I can lift the cab onto the chassis, I need to install the headliner and the roof. I have to make a new headliner, since the old one is in a poor condition. First, I had to find a suitable roof welt. I could not find one and so I decided to make it myself. I was able to find a fabric which had the right color and pattern.
A small problem I had to solve was how I could stitch several pieces together without seeing it. Therefore I sewed the two ends at a 90 degree angle.
From the outer side, the seam is not visible.
Now I can stitch the welt.
I have a welt in the correct length.
The headliner is pretty dirty and not usable anymore.
That's the reason why I made a new one. I was lucky to find the right color. Here I had to sew the white stripes, these will be attached to the roof.
Everything is ready and I can start with the installation. First, the welt is temporarily fixed at the correct height.
At the cross-bars some material had to be cutted off.
Now, the welt can be finally fixed with nails.
The headliner is fixed temporarily.
A view from below shows, everything fits well so far.
At the front and rear side, they have used originally some kind of PET film. I don't know whether they had this material already 80 years ago or not, but I will use it as a replacement. Next month you will see how I finish this job.
