The two running boards are nearly finished - actually the paint is drying.

All parts I've made last month are welded together. They will connect the running board with the fenders.

The running board will lay on this steel profile, the top cover is made by the aluminum angle.

Final adjustments are made.

These parts are welded and can be installed.

They are mounted from the upper side …

… and this is view from below. It's a more time consuming construction but more easy to mount the board.

Everything fits, I can remove the board again to make the finish.

To drill with this wood cutters when you already have made a hole is not a big problem.

Ford Model A Restoration April 2014

Just take a small round piece of wood and drill a hole in the center. Then wrap some tape around until it has a perfect fit in the hole. Now give some pressure from the back while you are drilling the hole and everything works fine.

The running board also gets a rubber mat on top of it. Since the quality of my fist one which was 9 years old was very bad and not usable anymore, I had to buy a new one. I hope that this one lasts for a longer time.

On all four sides of the board aluminum profiles are mounted.

They have been adapted and provided with holes for mounting.

Now I can remove all parts and start with priming and subsequent varnishing.

The disassembled metal parts are all sandblasted.

Ford Model A Restoration April 2014

All this goes to the galvanic shop for electroplating. These parts I treated with a wire brushing after sandblasting.

Here you can see the difference, when you want to have a shiny look, use the wire brush like on the left side, when you prefer a dull look, just sandblast it.

Finally, I need a new rubber pad for my foot rest. I have used a rubber buffer which has the desired hardness and is also big enough for my project. First I have cut out a section of the rubber.

Then bring the rubber to the desired shape.

With such a grinding wheel it is an easy job. The diameter of the pad is made 2 mm larger than the steel part has in order to get a press fit.

When mounted, you can work out the contact surface very well.

This part also goes to the electroplating shop.
