Ford Model A Pickup Restoration October 2009

In October I have done some dusty work, namely the removal of paint from the doors and the cabin.

In the middle of the picture you can see the original green that the car had in 1929. Since this 'frog' green is not my favorite color, I decided to paint the car in a darker green.

I guess this car was visible from miles, because the cabin and doors had such highly visible bright red stripes on both sides! I will make such stripes too but in black color.

During sanding the door, such beautiful patterns came to light, i.e. all the color from the past years became visible.

I did not sand to the bare metal.

The door is made of ash wood and planked on the outside with sheet metal. At the corners, aluminum profiles were used.

To remove the paint I have used a method where I use the chisel and crape the paint away like you can see on the picture. From time to time I had to re-sharpen it, of course, but this way the underlying wood was not big hurt.

Aluminum and steel putting together can oxidized and this also happened here. That's the reason why I have removed all old paint there with a grinder, supplied with a sharp carbide cutter.

Both doors are removed from the old paint now. What's missing is the sanding with sandpaper and then it goes on with the preparation for the new paint.

Here is a picture of the side door as it looks from inside. The whole structure is made of wood.

Also the cabin has several layers of paint and rust which have been removed.

Here are the transitions between aluminum and steel removed from paint.

Also on all hinges you can see the bare metal.
